Thai Airways' Royal Orchid Plus is one of the most glamorous Frequent Flyer Programs of all such programs of various airlines of Asia. Royal Orchid Plus is a unique frequent flyer program that has been created to enhance the quality of the traveling experience of the passenger.
The purpose of Royal Orchid Plus is to recognize and reward flyers who have faith in the services of Thai Airways. Flyers who register with Royal Orchid Plus accumulate points according to the distance traversed with Thai. These accumulated points are the 'frequent flyer miles' that may be exchanged for free air journeys or gifts and facilities. The miles that passengers procure from Thai and other Star Alliance airlines form the basis of their membership status with the Royal Orchid Plus Frequent Flyer Program. The membership stages comprise 3 grades: Member, Silver, and Gold, with each higher grade offering an exclusive set of advantages. Qualifying miles signify the real number of miles plus extra service miles traversed on Thai and Star Alliance Airlines. Miles traversed with other partner airlines of Thai Airways or under sponsorship schemes do not fall into the category of Qualifying Miles.
Customers may register into Royal Orchid Plus by filling up an application form over the Internet. After registration, Silver and Gold grades may be achieved with the accrual of Qualifying Miles over 3 assessment durations. This method of assessment permits members to enjoy the benefits of Silver or Gold grades soon after collecting abundant Qualifying Miles. Both Silver and Gold grades are then tenable for a duration of 2 years.
Passengers are eligible to earn miles along with extra class of service miles for flying in all reservation classes on Thai Airways. Flights that do not traverse upto 500 miles contribute a least amount of 500 miles to the account of a Royal Orchid Plus member.
The mileage credited to each member is a certain percentage of the real number of miles traveled. Some of these percentages are given below:
- For Economy Classes Y, B, M, H, Q, T, K, S, the mileage is calculated at 100%
- For Economy Classes V and W with discounted tickets, the mileage is calculated at 50%
- For the Premium Economy Class, the mileage is calculated at 110%
- For the Royal Silk Class, the mileage is calculated at 125%
- For the Royal First Class, the mileage is calculated at 150%
The Qualified Miles earned by travelers may be redeemed in the form of Awards of various kinds. Members may redeem Awards for their nominees too. Air Awards and Hotel Awards may be encashed at a moment's notice over the Internet. Royal Orchid Plus members should get in touch with Thai Airways Bookings for other types of Awards in order to benefit from the gifts due to them through their memberships
If a member has not earned enough miles for his/her selected Awards, he/she may buy miles so that he/she collects maximum amount of 30,000 miles to be eligible for that particular Award. Passengers need a minimum of 250 to 500 miles for lodging only in any premier hotel that Thai has collaborations with. For availing of promotional benefits along with lodging, they require a double or triple amount of miles.
To be eligible for a Silver grade membership, a passenger requires 10,000 Qualifying Miles from the date when he/she registers into the Royal Orchid Plus Frequent Flyer Program to December 31 of that year. A Silver member can carry an extra 10 kgs of luggage on all Thai Airways flights.
